Last year our blog honored Hugo as the best of 2011 in science fiction and fantasy. The film demonstrated that a good fantasy film could be not only for the youth but also for the whole family. 2012 offered a series of Science Fiction, fantasy, Horror and Action films that were unforgettable. They were infused with great acting, incredible directing and most importantly, an original visions. The following films demonstrated that although genre films have a stigma against them, there is still room for creativeness.

This year the race came down to two films. While the Amazing Spider-man,and Looper demonstrated that Hollywood still made great films Robot and Frank demonstrated that science fiction is still possible on an indie scale. However it all came down to Skyfall and The Dark Knight Rises. Skyfall and The Dark Knight Rises exemplified that a good action movie could be entertaining but at the same time smart and thought provoking. As the awards have demonstrated there was no clear sweep as there were too many great films out there for one to dominate. The best picture was ultimately hard to chose but after proper analysis, the film was chosen on its incredible story and resonance.
